Last night was the 11th annual Chocolate Fest and Silent Auction fundraiser for SACHA (Sexual Assault Centre Hamilton and Area), a non-profit organization that supports sexual assault victims and works to end violence in the community.
SACHA’s free and confidential programs include counselling and advocacy, community outreach and public education, and a 24-hour support line.
“Our 24-hour support line is for anyone: men, women, friends, family, and professionals. If you have questions and you’re a survivor of sexual violence or if you’re someone who loves a survivor or works with a survivor, you can call our 24-hour support line. I really want to make sure folks do that,” said Lenore Lukasik-Foss, Director of SACHA.
The event was held at Liuna Station and presented by Meridian. A $50 admission fee included three dessert tickets with three additional tickets available for $10.
Local bakeries like Beyond the Batter Cupcakes, Forrat’s on Locke, and Beanermunky Chocolates shared their tasty creations with a full house eager for some sugar.
With sweet treats from 15 different bakeries, a much-needed Chocolate Rescue Station supplying milk, water, and salty snacks, appearances by Sunni Genesco and singer Robyn Benedict, a 50/50 draw, cash bar, and tons of items up for auction, including wine ($20 gave you a pick from different gift bags), the event generated awareness and funds for SACHA as well as some new, local places to indulge.
Those interested in supporting SACHA can volunteer to answer the 24-hour support line, join a committee, or help out at an event. Donations are also accepted by online or directly.
