If you’ve never experienced the downtown Stoney Creek shops, maybe this holiday gift guide will inspire you. There are lots of gems with much to offer at the east end of the city. Here are some of my favourite spots along King Street in downtown Stoney Creek for holiday shopping.
For the spa-lover
If your loved one adores getting pampered (who doesn’t?), this gift is one they can use all year long. For $1500, they will get SIX luxurious spa days at Coco Mazzi, each including an hour facial, massage, manicure, pedicure, and luncheon. Plus, it comes with a basket valued at $275! Inside, you’ll find a robe, hairspray, hand and foot cream, candle, Coco Mazzi mug, travel size body wash and lotion, nail polish, body cleanser, body butter, and bath salts. The package is available for men too and will include some modifications. Of course, gift certificates can be purchased in smaller denominations…experiencing one spa day at Coco Mazzi is still heavenly.
For the craft-lover
Artisans Nook is the cozy home to 65 vendors. If you’re looking for one-of-a-kind gifts, there is something here for everyone. Most products in this shop are hand-made, offering everything from pottery and knit dolls to notebooks and body lotions. Some treasures that caught my eye were the Bubble Bath Cupcakes ($12 each or two for $20) and Pokeman hats ($25).
I also fell in love with these stockings ($35, available in different patterns) and the gorgeous Gatsby-inspired jewellery (headpiece $55, necklace $60).
For the art-lover
Artisans Nook Studio Gallery is located next door to the store. It’s a gallery space run by artist Gail Battista, where you’ll find her beautiful work to gift to the art-lover in your life. Find Gail in the space Wednesday, Friday and Saturday (1-4pm) or by appointment. On Wednesdays, bring your own supplies for an open studio from 1-4pm or book a lesson in Acrylic painting for a gift to experience together!
For the comic-lover
If you have a thing for comics, you’ll definitely want to check out Comic One Books. During my visit I learned that people are generally loyal to their comic store, but just for this season I encourage you to make a detour to check out this one if you’ve never been. Up some stairs and into this comic book mecca, you’ll find big names and independent publishers like Dark Horse, Image, IDW, Valiant, and others. Gift ideas include comics (of course), character piggy banks, board games, toys, statues, posters, and prints by the store’s own Casey Parsons.
For the sweet-lover
Bella Biscotti is just that – beautiful, beautiful cookies, almost too good to dip in coffee! They have some of the best biscotti I’ve ever tasted (sorry nonna!) in over 35 flavours. Try the peanut butter chocolate and turtle biscottis…delicious! You can fill a pretty mason jar with biscottis for a gift (small $15, large $20) or buy them by the box. Biscottis are $3 each, six for $15 or 12 for $25. Gluten free biscottis are also available as well as cookies, squares, cupcakes and custom cakes.
It doesn’t get much sweeter than Sprinkles on Top. Home to all sorts of confections, you’ll find candy cane roses, chocolate covered pretzels, candy cane oreos, peanut butter bites, cookie monster bark, and lots of other fun treats. Pick up chocolate gift baskets or stocking stuffers (and don’t forget an ice cream cone for yourself while you’re there!).
For the home decor-lover
Yellow Iris gift shop is filled with gifts of all kinds. They have sauces and spices to make up delectable baskets or gifts like colouring books, aprons, and mitts. There are natural soaps, Style Me Vintage aprons, colourful Sock It To Me socks, pretty Bailey Brown Pottery, tea pots, pre-wrapped gift baskets, and more!
McGee’s Landing is the ultimate home decor shop. Filled with curiosities like mugs, blankets, plaques, clothing, jewellery, and pillows, you’re sure to find something you’ll love. I never leave this store empty handed. Now, they have a ton of Christmas decor to make your home festive for holiday entertaining.
Trinity Gift Boutique offers an eclectic mix of gifts: scarves, jewellery, knit baby wear. With a focus on wellness, the store also has soy candles, essential oils, natural beauty products, meditation aids, and bits of spiritual encouragement.
For the tea-lover
Tea is always the perfect gift for someone who is known to enjoy a warm cup on the regular. Parkermanns Tea has over 100 varieties. If you’ve never been, I wrote about the shop here. For the holidays, they’re offering baskets with two teas for $15 or three teas for $20 (it also comes with a tea pot spoon and strainer). Or, you can buy 50g or 100g packages of your favourite kind! (They also have homemade scones to bring to your next holiday party!).
As always, these are only a selection of shops. Comment with your personal favourite stores or products to spread the love.
